As shown below in Figure A, XML Instance provides a toolbar that supports basic file and print operations, validation, as well as functions to set and edit a schema.
Figure A - Toolbar
The buttons on the left provide shortcuts to common File menu options (New, Open, Save, and Print). The checkmark icon represents the Check For Errors button for validating a document against its schema.
The Source button is used to open a new pane which displays the source of the XML document. The Content button is used to return to the Tag and Edit areas.
The Set Schema... button allows you to apply a schema to an XML document. Clicking this button will bring up the Apply Schema dialog box. Use the "Files of type" drop-down list to select a schema format. Select a schema filename or browse to find one, and then click Open. The schema will be applied to the current document, and the Tag area will reflect the schema's structure. See Create a Document and Setting a Schema for more information.
Hint: A right click on the Set Schema button on the toolbar provides quick access to schemas recently used to create XML documents, facilitating the selection of frequently used schemas.
The Edit Schema... button lets you edit your schema by loading the schema into the schema editor of your choice (as set in your preferences). If you do not have a schema editor installed, XML Instance will load XML schema dialects for editing. For more details, see Editing a Schema.
You can make the toolbar appear and disappear by toggling off the View menu's Toolbar option.
